<p>The new Comic Con teaser (i believe that's what it's called) packed quite the nostalgic punch. </p><p>Can someone please confirm that during Root's message Elias's theme was playing in the background? Maybe he will fit in the endgame somehow. </p><p>Also, I'm getting this Fringe dejá-vu. I feel like PoI is developing in a very similar way. </p>

Thank you all and I will see you on the season 5 discussion board. </p><p>And now lets drink: to Samaritan getting, as they say, "rekt". And to the Machine, Mr. Finch and Mr. Reese going back into saving the irrelevants (post apocalyptical season 1). At least that's what I hope. Cheers. </p>

<p>I absolutely understand your point and I think Samaritan's "intentions" are good. Just not much of a fan of its methods. </p><p>Putting both views side by side, and solving all the ethical, metaphysical and philosophical matters (and they ain't easy), they even eachother out, meaning, they are the main ideologies we get to see. But, on my case, that's were emotional stuff kicks in. I recently rewatched seasons 1 and 2 and Finch and Reese's backstory are really solid punches in the feels. That's why, as much as I try, i can't get to "like" Samaritan and give it the benenfit of the doubt: it's trying to kill the gang! </p>

I always respected Greer (he's too badass) and Samaritan (racional, strategist and purely logical, so far...) but everything being said here is really bringing them to a new light, and certainly giving me material to think about. </p><p>Don't take me wrong I still side with Team Machine but the debate free-will (Machine, this AI never tried to change or reshape the world) vs. deity silently directing our fates (Samaritan) has a lot more to it than meets the eye. And I'm still thinking how many more like the reporter in Panopticon and Simon Lee and Suleiman! were killed because they wondered or were to clever for their own good... </p><p>Sudden theory! What if season 2 british Reese, Allistair Wesley, is actually working with Decima? Think about it, a misterious employer trying to kill a CEO to ensure their goals are fullfilled. Hope he returns.  </p>

<p>Samaritan developing said God complex can hint that it is travelling beyond its core programming and gaining a degree of "emotion", like the Machine. And we know from experience that emotion and the "pure logic" Greer preached in A House Divided can't simply exist in the same entity. I never thought of Samaritan as a killing machine, much less as a Skynet, as it said, " humanity is our (machines) life and blood." </p><p>Returning to God complexes, it can also mean our favorite "bad guy" will start to get arrogant or underestimate its opponents, especially now that it wrecked the Machine. I hope to the almighty Nolan that Samaritan stays as cold and machine-like as it is.  </p><p>Bottom line, it all comes down to our view of the real world: do we want to stay like it is now (assuming there is not AI watching us) or do we want a deity silently directing our fates (Greer, YHWH). According to the answer, you will side either with the Machine or with Samaritan. (putting it real simple) </p>

</div> <p>That's exactly what Samaritan does (not beheading and burning of course, and i know ISIS/Samaritan point is just silly, for lack of a better word, but fits what i see in that AI). It is willing to kill those who disagree, those who go against its directives or simply those who suspect it exists (again, Panopticon and Prophets). It wants to reshape the world on its image. Plus, Finch makes a very good point in The Cold War, about the "friendly" AI that sets off to erradicate world hunger. The whole conversation with Shaw is food for thought. </p><p>The beauty of this story arc is that there isn't a black cloaked villain (Samaritan did amazing things regarding education, etc...) and no white armored hero (the tablet project sabotage by Finch and Root) and promotes exactly these idea exchanges that reach out from the show into our own particular POV on the world. Never happened with any other show so far. </p>

<p>You are missing the point... Samaritan is aiming to slowly take our free will and replace itn with its own. As Finch said "Are you ready for an instantaneous judgement, decided by an artificial intellingence that will lead to your demise?" Do you really think that an overlord that is willing to kill you simply because you start asking questions about the world you live in is the right choice? As racional as Samaritan is, it still kills everyone that seems a deviant. Elias, Dominic, Control, Grice, Shiffman they sure have done some questionable life choices. But what about the reporter Martine killed in Panopticon? Or Simon Lee? Does their death really bring utter improvement to the world? I understand team Samaritan's side, their ideology (Samaritan is their God) but they are extremists. They want to shape the world into the image of their leader *cough* ISIS *cough* (maybe a bit farfetched i know). That's why I don't get viewers/fans siding with Samaritan. But just another beautiful layer of this show. </p>

<p>I thought about that for a bit more and now I'm wondering...  </p><p>Even if they rebuild the Machine, for good or for bad, how the hell will they secure it with the NSA feeds? In the beggining, it was easy, the government gave it to Finch (who had IFT) because they wanted a system. Now Samaritan is in charge and I don't see it allowing something so obvious as giving the feeds to a third party, a concerned third party.  </p>

<p>Of course... Just remembering season 1 makes me all nostalgic. In a sense, we watched the Machine learn, grow and protect the characters we love. And now it's dead... Only DNA is left and the team's last hope is to clone it AND that the resulting system won't be one of the crazed versions we saw in Prophets. It's just sad. </p>

<p>Well... It has been awhile since I ended watching something with tears close to coming out (last time was Dumbledore's death, so...). </p><p>The only thing that pisses me off is that the Machine never took offensive action against Samaritan and Greer, and they both have now nothing but my complete contempt (you can't just take Control out like that), a nice change since Greer was a respectable villain and i kinda liked him. Well, not anymore... </p><p>The problem now is that the show needs to find a bigger threat than Samaritan if this arc is to ever come to an end. And I have an idea on what that might be. The briefcase has a strand of Machine DNA and the problem is that DNA alone won't garantee that the same Machine will be brought back. So, assuming they rebuild our AI in season 5, it maybe be just crazy enough to obliterate Samaritan BUT also to take its place like the evil AI without moral code. </p><p>Edit: Forgot to say how awesome it was to see the season 1 badass, The Man in the Suit come back and take out 30 Samaritan goons. Season 5 hype! </p>

<p>An interesting thought and the compression algorithm is a very reasonable theory. Although, I'm not sure that MPOV and SPOV are getting any similar... </p>

<p>At the end of this amazing episode i remembered something Greer said in A House Divided: "How often alliances shift in times of war. Not that those alliances ever truly existed. They are an illusion." </p><p>I actually cried a bit when Root said "They are going to kill her!" and my mind was just too numb with terror when Samaritan displayed the "TARGET LOCATED: ALL ASSETS DEPLOYED" to have any reaction... </p><p>I am now officialy terrified of Samaritan </p>

<p>In Beta, Samaritan's A.I. wasn't turned on since they didn't have the hardware (Greer's words) so, Samaritan was just a glorified hide and seek player. From Deus Ex Machina on, with the NSA feeds and that god-like hardware, Samaritan became self-aware, capable of thinking and learning, a true Artificial Intelligence and put in charge of everything by Greer. </p><p>We can see in SPOV in the left side of the screen the words "ADMIN CONTROL [LOCKED]" meaning that the only thing capable of controling Samaritan is itself (someone else though this out but I don't remember who). </p>

<p>Fall 2012, the state television network started airing PoI every friday night. Good (pre-Samaritan) times. </p><p>Never missed an episode since. </p>

<p>It's an assumption, I just used the wrong words (my bad). A simple theory but yours makes a lot more sense. </p><p>But i thought of something else: we don't see Shaw in the simulation for dramatic purposes as the Machine didn't have time to show us or think about her arrival because its other assets were 1 second  (or milisecond 0.o) away from destruction. </p>

It was a U.S. senator protected by Decima Technologies, even without Samaritan, they already were an international multibillion dollar company. </div>What's that supposed to mean? Are you claiming they could get close enough to murder him, but not close enough to do him any OTHER kind of harm?  <p>That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. </p><p>At the very least, taking him out some OTHER kind of way would've have exactly the same kind of effect as killing him whatever that may be. </p> </div> <p>With the time they had what do you think they could have done to disgrace a Senator backed by the almighty Decima? That OTHER kind of way is very easy to write and throw around but if you go rewatch the episode and think a little about it, they had no choice, not with the SWAT and the decima backup 2 feet away from them. </p>
