I certainly haven't given the details within my theory as much thought as you two have, but I'd like to propose a theory for how the show is going to end! Ambitious, I know. I came up with the idea a few weeks ago that what if the Machine's final cryptic/poetic message it sends (such as the analogy with Pandora's box and, "It's better not to know.") it will ominously send this message to Finch: <table style="margin: 0 auto; border-collapse:collapse; border-style:none; background-color:transparent; width:auto;"><tr><td style="vertical-align: top; width: 20px; color:#b00;font-size:40px;font-family:'Times New Roman',serif;font-weight:bold;text-align:left;padding:10px 10px;"> “ </td><td style="vertical-align: top; padding:4px 4px;"> Some broken things were not meant to be fixed. </td><td style="vertical-align: bottom; width: 20px; color:#b00;font-size:40px;font-family:'Times New Roman',serif;font-weight:bold;text-align:right;padding:10px 10px;"> ” </td></tr></table>I say final because I would like to theorize that the show will end with Finch developing a virus that effectively degrades the memories of both Samaritan and the Machine delivered through every pocket of data they both obtain. Finch's reasons for creating the Machine will then come full circle, ending how it began: dark, depressing, decaying... the only way to stop Samaritan, and anything else like it. Despite his best efforts to fix what he considered broken, to be able to predict and prevent all preventable outcomes, Finch will have to accept that some things are just not meant to be fixed, and that instead, are meant to be broken. 
Anyway, give me your thoughts, I'd like to hear what some of you'd like to say (I also hope this is the best place for me to have posted this).

I'm beginning to get the impression that the Machine can predict Samaritan better than Samaritan can predict the Machine. It knew enough of Samaritan's involvement in the Nautilus game and the poll rigging to pinpoint a person of interest for each event without Samaritan expecting the Machine's intervention. This entire time I've been convincing myself that those hacked servers confer more than just anonymity, being more along the lines of nullifying the Machine's signature in its predictions, but at this point I want to say Samaritan just simply cannot predict the Machine.

Aside from agreeing with virtually every single thing that was said alongside how it was said, I feel inclined to emphasize my particular affinity for the Carter-Reese ship's animosity. That truly was something that could've been completely omitted with no effect on the show and I have no idea why anyone would get behind it (I mean, it was just so awful). In that regard, her death brings me consolation in that the Carter-Reese ship is effectively sunk. As of last week's episode, it's providing fuel for Reese's character, which is definitely a net positive profit for the show at hand. Up until this thread I didn't know such a fringe clique existed for this show, and I consider myself fortunate to have found out -this- way. Ignorance is bliss.

Oh my god, those scenes with faux-war Veteran Finch... forget highlight of the episode, it's one of the highlights of the show I loved it that much XD I also enjoyed the chemistry between Reese and the captain, the captain's no-nonsense approach was excellently complimented by Reese's succinct guile. Lastly, I like how they advertised this episode in particular, as if to reel in some new viewers, like the constant commercials (radio and TV) alongside that Fury behind-the-scenes look. This was a good episode to show-case some of the appeal the earlier seasons had with Team Machine hunting their actual persons of interest. It had an excellent blend of comedy, action, and plot development. It didn't have character development, however, but it didn't have to. Background information from our characters would've been more important and didn't have time to fit, but, thankfully, not too many personality references were made. I'm not sure how new viewers handled the background references to Samaritan, but I hope it piqued their interest. I do pity them though, they have no idea how much of an out-of-character performance Micheal Emerson beautifully pulled off with those badass Finch scenes. Those alone made my <s>day</s> <s>week</s> month (year?).

<s>I like the new background, it accurately reflects the show as its progressing into Season 4.</s> My only complaint are the bricks used to make this text background, you could honestly just get away with a pure white backing. The bricks, while interesting, are a negligable addition to aesthetics and an equally negligable detraction from legibility. Basically, if an aesthetic backing is insisted upon, go big or go home :p EDIT: Okay so the bricks are what's being discussed as an issue here. Yeah, I'm not a big fan of them as they could either be replaced by something with maximum legibility, or something more aesthetically appealing (Samaritan's screen maybe?). The text background can simply be a mildly transparent white background with an image in the back as well. EDIT (again): <figure class="article-thumb tright show-info-icon" style="width: 180px">

<figcaption> See? </figcaption></figure>I have just discovered -why- the white brick background was picked in the first place, and, somewhat humorously to my comment that the wiki use Samaritan's screen, it was the background image for Samaritan's screen at the end of Death Benefit (right). I'm not sure what other Samaritan backgrounds there are, but I think they're basically pitch white without the brick texture now.

The episode turned-to-epicness for me not when they had realized who was behind the Game, but why it was. At the same time, I was a bit perplexed Team Machine didn't jog ahead to the final clue and did what Samaritan ended up doing. Although I satisfied myself with the answer Finch gave Reese which in turn came, surprisingly, from Root, in that people must make their own decisions which they shouldn't interfere in. Also, that they shouldn't do anything to attract Samaritan's attention (as if they haven't been pushing that bound thus far :p). Not my favorite excuse from a group of people who have prevented people choosing to engage in criminal behavior in the past, but an acceptable one in an instance where to expose themselves further would put them at risk. Not to mention to keep this glorious new plot development rolling ^_^. Samaritan's got its own Root now, here's to watching it grow into quite the insidious tree. Or any botanical organism of your choosing.

The way I look at Samaritan is similar to the way I look at the prototype version of the Machine, absolute and simplistic. Samaritan's ethics have yet to be divulged and the question of whether or not they even exist in the higher AI functions has yet to be answered. The Machine had a simple ethics code at its infancy. Its purpose was to minimize human casualties, even if it meant being an accessory to one if that would prevent a mass casualty event (I get this notion from the fact it saved Harold even though he didn't tell it to do so after he played Blackjack). I think Samaritan's infant ethics code is to execute its commands, which then becomes paradoxical when it's asked to provide commands of its own. Samaritan did seek to protect its integrity against those who could harm it, though I can't seem to recall whether or not it was instructed to do so. One thing above all else catches my attention, and that's how Samaritan refers to threats as, "Deviants". Worse still in that it actually down right suggested courses of action for each of them as opposed to vaguely sending a social security number to the interested parties. I have a feeling Samaritan is going to have a Deviant List instead of a Relevant List and keep it fully stocked with individuals deviant to its supposed paradigm. To comment on Samaritan's interface, it seems more user-friendly than the Machine, as if it were intended to be read and analyzed by human eyes. A chilling reminder that Samaritan is a tool utilized by Decima Technologies, whereas the Machine is its own thinking entity with thoughts and calculations all its own (displayed in a viewer-friendly way of course :p).

Something (my inability to predict the show) tells me the response is going to be far more sinister, but I can't help but entertain the humorous notions of Greer giving Samaritan a moral code. I expect some homages to the flashbacks in The Contingency, especially the one where Finch played Blackjack. I feel it would be the most sinister to have Samaritan play an iterated prisoner's dilemma with the world and instructed to minimize losses and maximize gains as it saw fit.

I was hooked from the first commercial and got the rest of the family to watch it. The premise just seemed so believable and compelling enough to redefine espionage fiction. (I mean, it turned out to be real didn't it?) Since then, I've been watching it to death. (My family?- not so much) and have been hooked because every -single- finale always outdoes the last. Plus, I appreciate the party mix of humor, action, realistic fiction, and the occasional pinch of sexy Person of Interest manages to deliver every single week.

1. I always found that odd. I always referred to the Machine as... well... a machine, rather than a person or god with a gender. I think it's just Root's preference, much like the ascending and descending tone targeting system she set up when in contact with the Machine. 2. If there's anything the second season finale taught me it's that Finch was never really in control of the Machine during the show. So in that sense he was never really an administrator this whole time and everything he's been doing was capable of happening by the Machine's own volition. We should just be thankful the Machine deems Finch as an continued asset. Wouldn't it be something if an episode arrived where he stopped receiving numbers... 3. I actually think it's the organization Mr. Collier represents. I mean it's a highly organized group of people who are as omniscient as the Machine is in regards to personal information, rather resourceful, and who have an ideology that involves no malevolent usage of large amounts of personal information. ... and yet they have this amount of personal information... sounds a little familiar doesn't it?

I actually like this one. This new group that Collier is a part of does seem highly organized much like Decima technolgies. But at the same time it also seems like it has less manpower and no visible leader-figure. And experience has shown that the Machine has been the computer-behind-the-curtain many times before...

Grace getting her number called is epic enough to demand itself as a finale. The drama that would ensue if/when Harold is seen alive... Hersh -IS- a robot isn't he? Seriously that guy doesn't even blink. I feel we haven't seen the last of Decima Technologies. Their inevitable meeting with Finch will be a long time coming. Personally I'd like to see more of Elias. He's been... occupied (:p) as of late.

Over on the Fallout wiki we've had our share of bad crop up from our achievement system. But we've also had our good. One editor there who boosted for the sake of achievements is now one of our most active admins. But what I've gathered from it is that you shouldn't implement it unless this wiki is actively patrolled for bad edits that might come up from achievement boosting. Because otherwise they'll slip through the cracks.
