About the two posts above:

This show is ultimately about AI and an Orwellian surveillance state, not sci-fi. JN said as much at the Writers' Panel. I don't see it drifting in a Lovecraft direction, or anything close. This is a series that's ultimately about people, and how surveillance is affecting their lives.

Also, new opening sequence, which mean The Machine isn't in charge anymore :o

Ah, but remember Finch's words: Samaritan underestimated the Machine. We're still discovering the degree to which the Machine anticipated all of this!

if that was true than why didn't the machine anticipate that Finch, (its creator), the one who taught it that all life is sacred, wouldnt kill the senator. i mean the machine has root, so why couldnt root take out the senator and then send shaw for the relevant number. i mean if were are to believe that the machine for some random reason wanted the senator to live, than we would have to believe that it wanted samaritian online. i mean the only real reason for doing this is just so samaritian would think that the machine is an idiot, which would mean that this was just a giant plan to create an enemy and cripple itself. frankly i have seen scooby doo villians with better plans than the machine's. so i agree with samaritians judgement that the machine is not a problem.
