A fixer or a cleaner is a person who is hired to remove incriminating physical evidence, including the disposal of bodies or witnesses.

History[]

Before 2011[]

When Zoe Morgan was a child, her father was a city official who became ensnared in a corruption case. The press camped out on her lawn for weeks, only dispersing when a man the party had sent to fix things showed up. This prompted her to become a fixer, working mainly for the rich and powerful (“The Fix”).

2011[]

On one of Team Machine's first cases, Lionel Fusco helps John Reese to identify the assassin who had killed Theresa Whitaker's by taking him to a bar owner who moonlighted as a fixer. According to Fusco, the fixer took a piece of most contract killings in the city and thus could identify the person responsible for it (“Ghosts”).

Fixer Zoe Morgan becomes targeted by Virtanen Pharmaceuticals, one of her clients, making her become a POI. With the help of Reese, Zoe is saved, and Virtanen is exposed for its crimes. During the case, one of Zoe's other clients, NYPD Lieutenant Allan Gilmore, betrays her and Reese. In response, Zoe exposes Gilmore and has him arrested on corruption charges (“The Fix”). Virtanen later goes bankrupt after the conviction of Robert Keller (“Risk”).

Zoe helps Reese and Finch to uncover Pete Matheson's framing of Scott Powell and his murder of Congressman Michael Delancey. Zoe offers Matheson her services as a fixer to panic him into calling Root, allowing Harold Finch to record incriminating evidence against him. At Reese's request, Zoe later gets reporters to leave Powell alone (“Root Cause”).

2012[]

Using family contacts in Eastern Europe, Nicola Petrosian contacts a fixer to cover up her murder of Claudia Cruz and to get rid of her baby. However, Reese is able to save the baby from the gangsters hired by the fixer while Nicola is identified as the person responsible by Detective Joss Carter and arrested (“Baby Blue”).

Reese calls upon Zoe's expertise as a fixer to help identify the likely head of HR, impressing Maxine Angelis with his connections (“Bury the Lede”).

While working on a case with Reese, Zoe uses one of her former clients, Rupert, to get Reese into a building in order to save Graham Wyler (“The High Road”).

2013[]

Following the bust of Derek Fowler's escort ring, Zoe mentions that she has been contacted by a number of councilmen looking to make sure that their names don't surface on the ring's client list (“Booked Solid”).

Joss Carter suggests that Zoe used her work as a fixer for doctors to the rich and famous to blackmail one into turning over Alexander Wyatt's birth certificate (“Lady Killer”).

2014[]

After her husband murders Tara Cooke, Gina Kincaid hires the mysterious fixer known as the Voice to get rid of the incriminating 911 call that Tara had made before her murder. The Voice accomplishes this by having the Templarios kidnap a young boy named Aaron Hollander in order to blackmail 911 operator Sandra Nicholson. The Voice goes so far as to harmlessly detonate a bomb when he realizes that Finch is involved as a "warning shot." The Voice eventually calls off his contract after Detectives Lionel Fusco and Jake Harrison crack the case and the Kincaids confess. Finch saves Sandra from a hitman sent by the Voice to kill her in an effort to tie up loose ends while Reese and Sameen Shaw rescue Aaron. However, the Voice gets away without ever being identified and he later calls Finch to congratulate him on handing the Voice his first defeat. The Voice promises that he won't harm Sandra or Aaron as there is no longer a point, but ominously promises to be seeing Finch again in the future (“Last Call”).

2015[]

Emma Blake is targeted by a fixer in the Chad Bryson trial to rig the verdict in favor of his client. Finch goes undercover on the jury with Zoe -- who implies that she was at the courthouse to help a high-ranking official who is one of her clients -- coaching Finch through fixing the verdict as guilty using her own experiences with fixing trials. However, it turns out that the fixer was hired to frame Bryson, not exonerate him. Reese and Zoe realize that there was a coverup at the victim's company that she was murdered to protect. Zoe helps Reese to locate the fixer's hideout and he finds evidence that the fixer is one of the jury. The fixer, Tim Rollins, attacks Emma and Finch, but is subdued and arrested by Reese to stand trial for his own crimes. After identifying Phillip Ward as the person who hired Rollins, Zoe publicly exposes him before Ward is arrested by Fusco. Zoe tells Ward that if he needs a fixer for his own trial, not to call her (“Guilty”).

The mysterious fixer known as the Voice resurfaces, targeting a man named Terry Easton. Determined to bring the Voice down once and for all, Finch enlists the help of crime boss Carl Elias who is aware of the Voice, but doesn't know his true identity. Elias uses his connections to help Finch hunt down the Voice who it turns out is targeting Amir Siddiq, one of the Voice's hitmen who had been able to identify the mysterious fixer and could potentially expose him after being arrested for multiple murders. The Voice instigates a gunfight in the middle of the NYPD 8th Precinct while Finch identifies him too late as Terry Easton, their supposed victim. Easton kills Siddiq and wounds Fusco, but is tracked down by Finch, leading to a face to face confrontation between the two men for the very first time. The intervention of Elias forces Easton to spare Finch, but Elias blows up Easton's getaway car as he flees, finally bringing an end to the Voice (“Sotto Voce”).
