Sameen Shaw uses an alias whenever situations require her to get in direct contact with a person of interest.
During Season 4, Shaw is forced to adopt the new permanent alias of Sameen Gray in order to avoid Samaritan's detection, but Martine Rousseau breaks this cover identity in “Point of Origin” and “The Devil You Know”.
In “Synecdoche”, The Machine reassigns Root's rotating aliases to Shaw following Root's death.
