When Finch talks to Reese at the beginning of the episode, he refers to Ulrich as Wallace Negel, and Reese points out immediately it must be an alias. This has more than a passing resemblance with the german spy character featured in The Eye of the Needle novel, a.k.a. Die Nagel (The Needle).
