The United States Secret Service is a federal law enforcement agency under the Department of Homeland Security tasked with conducting criminal investigations and providing protection to U.S. political leaders, their families, and visiting heads of state or government.

John Reese once considered joining the Secret Service, but decided against it as Secret Service agents work around the clock, have no choice in who they protect and the threats never stop coming ^{(“Synecdoche”)}.

The Secret Service sent Regina Vickers to investigate Vadim Pushkov, a hacker who stole the Homeland Security Automated Identification Database (H-SAID) and downloaded it to his laptop so he could sell it to the Irina Kapp, a member of the Estonian mafia. H-SAID contains information on thousands of travelers, and would allow terrorists to use the stolen credentials to smuggle their own people into the U.S. With the help of Detective Joss Carter of the NYPD and Team Machine, the laptop was recovered. Vickers cut a deal with Fermin Ordoñez where she brought his family to the United States in exchange for the laptop ^{(“C.O.D.”)}.

In order to get Roger McCourt Secret Service protection, Reese fired several shots in his vicinity, making it seem like his life was in danger. Reese later infiltrated McCourt's Secret Service detail as a way to get close to him ^{(“Death Benefit”)}.

The President was later targeted by a domestic terrorist group, one of whom had infiltrated the Secret Service. After being alerted by the Machine, the assassination was thwarted by John Reese, Sameen Shaw and Lionel Fusco and the terrorists were arrested by the Secret Service who were tipped off by Logan Pierce. Although Fusco was caught by the Secret Service, his NYPD badge and the intervention of Harper Rose in the guise of a Homeland Security agent allowed him to walk free while Joey Durban helped Reese and Shaw to escape ^{(“Synecdoche”)}.
